Objective To compare the wear of Ceramage and IPS e.max Press offering foundation for nonmetallic materials selection in clinical. Methods 20 class I cavities were prepared in the approximal flattened sides of the extracted human maxillary first molars. The cavities were divided into 2 groups randomly, and then restored with Ceramage or IPS e.max Press. Inlays were prepared according to the manufactures’ instructions with indirect methods and cemented with Varolink N. The non-wear extracted maxillary third molars were used as antagonistic enamel cusps after standardized prepared. After the self-made wear-testing device concluded 200,000 cycles under a load of 20 N, the wear depth of specimens and antagonistic enamel cusps was assessed by Kavo PREP assistant. Results The wear in Ceramage group was (298.30 ± 40.02) μm, while the wear of normal enamel was (206.60 ± 49.17) μm. The wear in IPS e.max Press group was (212.90 ± 61.21) μm, while the wear of normal enamel was (217.00 ± 25.10) μm. The wear of IPS e.max Press inlays was higher than Ceramage inlays (P < 0.05). Ceramage inlays showed higher wear than normal enamel (P < 0.05), while IPS e.max Press inlays was not statistically different from the normal enamel (P > 0.05). Conclusions Ceramage has more wear than IPS e.max Press. Ceramage shows higher wear compared with normal enamel, while IPS e.max Press has lower antagonistic war compared with normal enamel.

Objective This in vitro study aimed to investigate the remineralization effect of the natural medicine epigallocatechin gallate on artificial enamel caries in primary human teeth. Methods We divided 30 sound primary upper anterior teeth into 3 groups according to a random number table, including experimental group (epigallocatechin gallate group), positive control group (NaF group) and blank control group (artificial saliva group), with 10 teeth in each group. After test in vitro, Micro Hardness Tester was applied to measure hardness of samples before and after demineralization. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to observe the result of primary enamel surface remineralization. Results A significant increase in enamel surface microhardness between the three groups after remineralization (F=1 199.975, P < 0.05). The difference between 2 groups was compared with each other among 3 groups. Statistical significance was found (vs experimental group q=41.986, P < 0.05; vs positive control group q=68.174, P < 0.05), suggesting that both positive control group and experimental group could promote the remineralization of primary enamel, and the effect of epigallocatechin gallate was weaker than NaF (q=26.188, P < 0.05 ). The results from SEM indicated that there was large amount of sediment on the surface of primary enamel surface of incisors in the experimental group and positive control group, while primary enamel surface of incisors in the blank control group was honeycomb and uneven, with less sediment. Based on this in vitro study, epigallocatechin gallate can promote the remineralization of demineralized enamel of primary teeth, indicating its potential use as a natural remineralization medicine.

Gardner syndrome is a rare disease in oral and maxillofacial diseases which is characterized by intestinal polyposis, multiple osteomas, skin and soft tissue tumors. Early treatment has a better prognosis; therefore the early diagnosis of Gardner syndrome is very important. Maxillofacial pathology always appears to precede the other pathologies, so the importance of early detection of the syndrome by dentists is also emphasized. This review summarizes the etiology of Gardner syndrome-related mutations and the clinical manifestations of Gardner syndrome characterized by oral and maxillofacial deformities, multiple gastrointestinal polyps, and desmoid tumour, and their associated treatment.
