Objective To explore the effect of heat treatments on the metal-ceramic bonding strength in Ni-Cr-Ti alloy and Ni-Cr alloy. Methods We evaluated the metal-ceramic bond strengths by using a three-points bending test according to ISO 9693. Meanwhile, we also observed the metal-ceramic interface through scanning electronic microscope(SEM) and energy dispersive spectrum (EDS).Results The mean value of bonding strengths of four groups were (38.04 ± 3.79) MPa (Ni-Cr-Ti, degassed), (32.17 ± 4.00) MPa (Ni-Cr-Ti, no heat treatment), (36.32 ± 7.41) MPa (Ni-Cr, degassed), (31.75±2.77) MPa (Ni-Cr, no heat treatment). The statistic analysis showed that the mean bonding strengths were affected significantly by heat treatment method (P = 0.001), but not alloy type (P = 0.484). SEM and EDS demonstrated that the bonding surfaces of degassed specimens were compacted and had no cracks unlike those of specimens not receiving heat treatment. Conclusion According to the test results, the metal-ceramic bonding strengths of Ni-Cr-Ti alloy and Ni-Cr alloy are close to each other, and the bonding strengths of alloys can be heightened by heat treatment.

Objective To evaluate the effect of three different resin cement on fracture strength of cemented machinable IPS e.max CAD specimens and provide guides for clinical luting procedure. Methods Sixty human molars were collected, and occlusal enamel were removed; IPS e. max CAD blocks were processed into plate-shape and etched with 9.5% hydrofluoric acid. All specimens were randomly divided into three groups (n = 20) and received there different luting treatments, (group A: Multilink ? N+ Monobonds-S, group B: RelyX? Ultimate+ Scotchbond? adhesive, group C: RelyX? Unicem 2). Then each group were divided into two sub-groups (group 1: the control group, group 2 received thermal cycling). Fracture load was measured with a universal testing machine. The results were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and LSD test. Results Fracture load of each group were A1(1 763 ± 128)N、A2(1 563 ± 115)N、B1(1 861 ± 135)N、B2(1 676 ± 137)N、C1(1 446 ± 153)N、C2(1 038 ± 95)N. Significant differences of fracture load were observed among all groups (F = 52.279, P<0.001). Resin cement (F = 94.104, P<0.001) and thermal cycling (F = 63.818, P<0.001) affected the fracture load significantly. LSD test showed that significant differences of fracture load were observed among group A, B and C (P<0.05). Group B illustrated the highest fracture load where as group C demonstrated the lowest one. Conclusion Resin cement that treats the ceramic and dentin surface simultaneously will strengthen the fracture load of the glass ceramic. Thermal cycling will reduce the fracture strength of cemented glass ceramic.

Objective To investigate the application value of platysma myocutaneous flap in repairing the defect after resection of buccal carcinoma. Methods 40 patients (preoperative examination of regional lymph nodes showed no obvious metastases of buccal cancer) were selected during January 2008 to May 2014, 40 patients were divided into the observation group and control group equally and received the conventional implement buccal carcinoma resection and selective neck dissection. Observation group used platysma myocutaneous flap to repair the buccal defect, and the control group used forearm skin flap to repair the defect. After one year follow-up, the survival rate of the flaps, the neck activity after operation, and the opening degree of mouth were compared with these two groups. Results Compared with the control group, the survival rate of the observation group had no statistically significant difference (χ 2 = 0.013, P = 0.909). In the observation group, the flap surrounding the mandible had a significant lower incidence of distal necrosis than that without surrounding the mandible, and the difference was statistically significant (χ 2 = 3.429, P = 0.044). 1 years after the operation, the scar was softened, and there was no significant difference between the two groups. The mouth opening degree and buccal flap mucosal condition were ideal 1 year later, the difference was not statistically significant between the two groups (P > 0.05).Conclusion Platysma myocutaneous flap has good repairing effect for the preoperative defect in buccal cancer patients without dominant buccal and submandibular lymph node metastasis. It is especially suitable for the patients with missing teeth after resection of buccal lesions and patients who can not implement the free flap with high surgical risk. Compared with free flap, platysma myocutaneous flap has the advantages of small surgical trauma, good efficacy, simple operation and easy to carry out, it’s worthy of clinical promotion.

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and related risk of low level laser therapy (LLLT) for accelerating tooth movement during orthodontic treatment. Methods An extensive electronic search was conducted by two reviewers. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-RCTs concerning the efficacy of LLLT for accelerating tooth movement during orthodontic treatment were searched in CENTRAL, PubMed, Medline, Embase, CBM, CNKI.Results Six RCTs and three quasi-RCTs, involving 211 patients from six countries, were selected from 173 relevant studies. All nine articles were feasible for the systematic review and meta-analysis, five of which were assessed as moderate risk of bias, while the rest were assessed as high risk of bias. The mean difference and the 95 % confidence interval (95 % CI) of accumulative moved distance of teeth were observed among all the researches. The results showed that the LLLT could accelerate orthodontic tooth movement in 7 days (MD = 0.19, 95% CI 0.02-0.37, P = 0.03) and 2 months (MD = 1.08, 95% CI 0.16-2.01, P = 0.02). Moreover, a relatively lower energy density (2.5, 5 and 8 J/cm 2) was seemingly more effective than 20 and 25 J/cm 2 and even higher ones. Conclusion This systematic review and meta-analysis demonstrated that LLLT might speed up the tooth movement in orthodontic treatment. A relatively lower energy density (2.5, 5, and 8 J/cm 2) was seemingly more effective than higher ones. More qualified RCTs in human subjects are required.
